Decorating for Fall

Fall is a great time of year that holds such good memories for our family. Two of our children were born in the fall, plus we have other members of our family with fall birthdays. We have lots of fond memories of LSU games, hay rides, pumpkin patches and trick-or-treat when our kiddos were little (And some not so fond memories of Haunted Houses as they got older. Ha!).

These days, we love to watch LSU football, go to fall festivals or craft shows, anticipate the exact time satsuma oranges will be ready to pick, and of course, hope to experience some milder weather. Fall is also a great time for hunting and fishing here in Sportsman's Paradise.

I have been working on decorating our home for the fall season, this week. I added a new mini magnolia wreath as well as a pretty dough bowl candle to my dining area, this year. I've kept the decorating simple so that I can enjoy it through Thanksgiving. The day after Thanksgiving I put it all away and decorate for the Christmas season. (Which is my favorite!)

Black & white buffalo plaid runner paired with
olive green napkins accent our table.
Mini magnolia wreath on the mirror (with the
addition of cotton stems) from Kirkland's.

Mini white pumpkins from Hobby Lobby.
(I painted the stems.)

Dough bowl candle, magnolia leaves
and mini pine cones for the center of the table.

Mercury glass pumpkins and cotton add a fall feel to our mantle.
Hopefully we will enjoy some fall weather soon. How are you decorating for fall in your home this year?

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year! My idea of fall decor is somewhat similar to Anne's. However, I prefer to use natural foliage and vegetation with most of my decor. Take for example this tall, saltwater marsh grass between me and a spread of duck decoys. The Avery Green Head Gear Pro Series decoys provide a nice contrast to the mirror of the fall overcast sky.

Sometimes, I don't mind having an artificial foliage....such as this Avery Quick-Set Boat Blind with Bottom Land skin when hunting flooded timber. The dark colors blend well with shaded tree trunks.

And sometimes, a good blend of artificial foliage with natural vegetation can be very decorative...such as these Higdon Blind Grass Sheets blended with natural cattails. A Labrador Retriever makes for a great centerpiece with all of the above, don't you think?

Hope everybody's Fall is getting off to a great start! I'm looking forward to getting some use out of my Fall decor, soon......well....if it ever cools down!

  1. You kids are too cute. Love the different perspectives. Is that a duck blind or a boat with the camo on it? I thought it was a boat with a cover over it! But after reading the post I guess it just looks like a boat but is a camo-ed blind. Happy hunting.
