Friday Favorites - Party Food Edition

We are in full holiday mode around the Green household! Trying to get all of the shopping, wrapping, food preparations, etc., done in time for family coming into town next week. So exciting; it truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

I want to share two new dips and one new appetizer I have made recently. These recipes are all inspired from other people but I tweaked the original versions and have made them my own.  Feel free to try and customize to your liking.

The first dip is something I made to take to an Ugly Christmas Sweater party. I found the recipe by way of Melanie Shankle who is my favorite author. She shared this Tex-Mex style holiday dip and man, is it tasty AND festive. It's got cilantro which some people don't care for; so, I made sure to place a sprig on top. I served it with tortilla chips. But, you could also use crackers.

My ugly sweater is a snowman, the hood has a carrot nose and button eyes. Haha! (Bonus, the mittens are pockets.)

My next dip was inspired by my recent trip to Texas. There is a Tex-Mex restaurant in the Houston are called Gringo's and they have a delicious green dip that is served with the chips and salsa. I can't really describe it. But, if you are ever in the area, you should give it a taste. If you are like me and don't live near a Gringo's restaurant, try my copycat version.

I added a 14 oz tube of sour cream, the juice of 2 limes, one ripe avocado, one palm-full of cilantro and one tablespoon of jalapeno to my food processor. Puree all of the ingredients until smooth. Serve chilled with tortilla chips.

My last recipe is not a dip but it is a new favorite appetizer around our house. I found this on the Instagram page of Penny Struebig; she writes a blog called Penny's Passion.  As soon as I saw the picture, I knew I had to try it! I did not have the recommended Pear & Cinnamon preserves that she used. Instead, I substituted some Pear Preserves I had in my refrigerator, chopping it up a bit for the right consistency. I made 2 batches of these Pear Tartlets for my family before the LSU-UGA SEC Championship Game and they disappeared so fast!

Such a simple and tasty recipe!
Have a wonderful weekend, friends! Merry Christmas to all from the Greens!
